Foundation Year
If you have the drive, commitment and motivation to succeed but don't have the necessary qualifications, our Foundation Year programme could be just right for you. It is suitable for anyone over 18 years of age whether you fancy a change of career or didn't get the grades you need to continue your education. This one year full-time course has been specially designed so you can start studying for a higher education qualification without delay.
There are a number of pathways in the Foundation Studies programme enabling you to chose the subject area that most appeals to you. The course typically forms the first year of a three year Foundation Degree with successful completion allowing automatic progression onto a range of Foundation Degrees.
What subjects can I study?
There are several subject pathways each leading to a number of Foundation Degree qualifications. You will enrol on the Foundation Degree of your choice but don't worry if you change your mind, as you can transfer to another Foundation Degree within the same pathway during your first year.
Foundation Year: Business Development
Business skills are relevant to a large number of roles in many different industry sectors. If you think you have a good business brain but feel held back by a lack of qualifications, then this could be the solution for you. On successful completion of this Foundation Studies course, you will qualify for a place on a business relation Foundation Degree.
Foundation Year: Creative Industries
If you have ambitions to work in the creative industries, this could be your first step to achieving your dream. You'll undertake a number of modules to give you confidence in learning techniques plus every term you'll study Creative Industries subjects including Introduction to Film & Media Studies and 2D Design.
Foundation Year: Sport and Leisure
This could be your ticket to a career in the sports and leisure industry. As well as completing units to improve your study skills and computing capabilities, you'll undertake subject specific modules such as The Human Body: Energy & Movement or Expedition Skills for Outdoor Activities. So when you come to start your Foundation Degree, you'll have the confidence and know-how to reach the finish line.
Foundation Year: Computing and Information Technology
If you left school with no qualifications and want to progress in this competitive industry, this course gives you the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification. Our supportive tutors will help you to develop the skills for higher level study plus you'll undertake IT modules to improve your knowledge prior to starting your Foundation Degree.
Foundation Year: Engineering and Technology
This course provides the perfect route into a number of engineering and technology Foundation Degrees for those who don't have the usual qualifications. You'll study a number of subject specific modules including Design for Engineering & Technology, Mathematics for Technology, and Health & Safety in Engineering & Technology.
