About the course:

If you work in the challenging but rewarding area of learning support in a primary or secondary school, or in further education, get a qualification to enhance your performance and enjoyment of your role. This Foundation Degree helps you to better understand your role and the needs of the learners that you support.

What you will study:

The course covers all aspects of learning support in theory and practice. You will study key modules about working in Learning Support, like ‘Professional Practice’ and ‘Planning, Observing, Assessing and Recording’. There are also modules about specific groups of learners, like ‘Working with Autistic Spectrum Disorders’ and ‘Children and Young People’s Mental Health’.

How you will study:

You will combine academic study with work-based learning, applying what you have learnt directly to your job. Assessment is through case studies, presentations and action research.

Where next?

This qualification will give you increased professional knowledge, skills and confidence – great for career development. You might even want to go on to further study with a BA in Education or Inclusive Education.

Entry requirements:

You should possess at least 1 A Level with passes in at least 3 other academic subjects at GCSE level, plus GCSE Grade A - C in English, or an equivalent profile. All applicants must complete an application form. When your application is received, you will be invited for an information session and interview plus a written assessment at some colleges.
